Talking Recovery with my Brother

Talking Recovery with my Brother

Welcome to another Monday edition of the Destiny Architecture newsletter, where I share about recovery once a week.

My brother and I are both in long-term recovery, which is amazing. I've know this guy for a quarter century and consider him my (non-biological) brother in my chosen family.

His story is far more compelling than mine, so I invited him onto Radio Detox to share about it. It's also my sneaky way of "orange pilling" him, or getting him interested in bitcoin. To my surprise, he already accepts bitcoin at his hot sauce business!

The moral of the story is this: talk about money, recovery, and values with your family. Even your chosen family. Recently, one of my friends was about to make a major purchase but called me first saying, "You're one of only two women I can talk with about money, so I need your help."

Money.

Recovery from drugs and alcohol.

Spiritual practices, like yoga.

Talks about health, doctor visits, and when we need a little extra help.

I feel we don't talk about these things with our dear ones often enough. Have the talks because, as I found out talking to Billy this week, you may be surprised where your people stand.

Thank God Billy and I are sober today, able to have fulfilling careers, and be there for our families and each other. Thank God 25 years of friendship didn't go down the tubes during our active addiction years. Thank God I have a brother who always looked out for me and still does!

My podcast, Radio Detox, is mostly about fiat recovery and bitcoin, so I don't talk about it much here. I can take bitcoin payments just like Billy does at Grand Traverse Sauce Co. I've seldom taken BTC payments for yoga and Reiki. But I can! I've also come to the point that it doesn't matter; you can pay me through my Square Market and it converts to Bitcoin anyway. This is why I choose now to take a softer approach to "orange pilling" now. However, when it comes to Billy, I didn't have to anyway!

Watch to hear his amazing story of recovery, how he served his time, the mistakes he made, and how he got lucky along the way. This man definitely had a God moment that saved his life. Be inspired!
