Is it BAD to fall asleep while meditating?
There I was...
Thinking I'd wake up when my timer went off at the end of my meditation. I was trying out a new timer and it didn't go off with a bell or any kind of noise. Oops!
I'd fallen asleep and snoozed past my 20 minutes.
The BEST part? It was my morning meditation! I'd just slept all night!
So I must have needed that extra 10 minutes of rest. Rest is good. There's no need to feel bad if you fall asleep while meditating. It will happen.
If you want to avoid this, use a timer (that works, unlike mine). 😉 Set an alarm in case you snooze.
Or sit up straight in a chair so you're less likely to fall asleep. 😴
Adventures in Meditating...
I always tell people my cats are my best teachers when it comes to yoga and meditation. Their antics as I practice asana, enjoy Yoga Nidra, or even meditate are hysterical. (Sometimes they are funny to my friends but not to me!)
One day last week, I did a little morning meditation on Sutra 1.27. There are 3 steps:
🕉️ Chanting AUM out loud
🕉️ Chanting AUM to oneself silently
🕉️ Listening back for AUM to be said back to you by the Supreme Being (higher power, the divine, etc).
In the third step, listening back for AUM, I had the experience of a Supreme Being answering back…in the form of my cat jumping on my chest! (I was seated, he is apparently a skilled acrobat).
I suppose this counts? My furry friend won a title in a cat show once, so he is technically a “Supreme Master!” 🤣 🤣 🤣
