While I intended to practice yoga live on Zoom every single day in August, I decided to take a few days off this week to let my body rest.
I’ve been working on allowing my body to come back to its natural hormonal state without medications. This means that while it’s returning to balance, I don’t know what to expect from my cycle each month. This particular month, I’ve been hit with exhaustion & fatigue. IYKYK—ignoring this isn’t an option.
Monthly cycles and hormones will never be taboo here at Destiny Architecture™.
This isn’t the middle ages. It’s 2023 and our monthly cycles are a big part of who we are and how we operate, or so I’m learning from reading Alisa Vitti’s books!
I’ve taken a pause on morning yoga practice for 3 days now. There are 7 previous practices on this site (and YouTube). I’ll list them below so you can enjoy them.
I’ve mentioned before it’s easy for me to get a streak. I love the daily discipline of meditating, writing, and/or doing yoga daily. I wrote 150+ days consecutively from November 2021 into the spring of 2022 as part of the Ship 30 program. Then, one day, I abruptly stopped. I totally forgot to write (or “ship”) that day. I’d hit burnout.
We’re not lesser yogis if we don’t hit a streak. As I mentioned in my last practice—the Yoga Nidra one—there are definite reasons NOT to practice yoga asanas (or poses). If you’re sick, stay off the mat. Sick bodies need rest. Menstruation is another time to take a rest.
While I love the idea of a daily practice in August to benefit Stop Soldier Suicide, a daily physical practice isn’t always possible—not even for the yoga teacher!
